REPAIRS TO ST CLEMENT'S

In the past 15 years urgent work has been completed. The loose stonework on the parapets was taken down and then reconstructed. The North Transept roof and South Ailse were re-slated and the hopper heads, rainwater gutters and downpipes cleaned. In addition a toilet and small utility room have also been installed.

The East window of the Beaupre Chapel was in a precarious state and emergency repairs were undertaken in mid-January 2017 by Susan McCarthy of Auravisions. 

A full condition report identified that the windows were in urgent need of repair, conservation and restoration. As a result of a very successful fundraising initiative by the Friends, the generosity of grant-giving bodies and individual donations, approximately £60,000 was raised and the work was completed in 2021. 

Extensive work was also required on the castellations and in 2021, as a result of a successful fundraising campaign, the work was completed.

Unfortunately close investigations of some of the roof timbers in 2025 revealed serious problems with some of the supporting roof timbers. Supporting scaffolding is now in place but the church has had to be closed to the public until the necessary repairs have taken place.
